Agricultural Support to North Korea

Central to recovery from malnutrition or disease is nutritious food to eat. CFK has provided hundreds of small, medium and large greenhouse kits across the country to help rural places grow vegetables year round. This portion of the ministry began in 1997 when 5 prototype greenhouses designed by Dr. John Wilson, were taken to North Korea as the first stage of a program to provide tools for growing more food. In November of that year 200 more were delivered to the nation. Since then we have continued sending and building various greenhouses at specific facilities throughout the provinces we support. Over time our greenhouses have evolved to the third generation, meaning a shape shift with many small heat retention modifications, becoming larger and much more efficient.
North Koreans are using them to grow spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, melons and other vegetables, rich in vitamins and minerals, vital to patients’ health. The vegetables combined with the donated food including canned meat, TB medicine, and other care enables 85-90% of patients treated at the hospitals and rest homes to be cured and returned healthy to their homes, families and communities. Apart from greenhouses, other agricultural assistance includes tractors, and inoculant to make food production more efficient.
